Board of Health

The Board of Health shall have the power and authority to adopt ordinances relating to the protection of the health of Borough residents, shall employ necessary personnel and fix their salaries with consent of the Council, and shall have under its jurisdiction the Bureau of Vital Statistics of the Borough, the Health Officer and such other employees as are necessary to carry out its duties. The Board of Health shall have all of the jurisdiction conferred upon Boards of Health by N.J.S.A. 26:3-1..

The Borough of Roseland contracts with the township of East Hanover for it's Health services. 
The mission of the Health Department is to improve the health and quality of life of the citizens of East Hanover Township and Roseland Borough through the use of health promotion strategies, health protection strategies, preventive services and community health surveillance.
   
MEETINGS ARE HELD ON THE 2ND THURSDAY OF EVERY MONTH (EXCEPT FOR JULY AND AUGUST) AT 7PM IN COUNCIL CHAMBERS.


The Board of Health shall consist of five (5) members and two (2) alternate members.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING: Free blood pressure screening is available to all residents every 2nd and the Wednesday at the East Hanover Municipal Building from 9:00am to 10:00am and at the Roseland Borough Hall every 3rd Friday from 12:00pm to 1:30pm. Screenings are conducted by our public health nursing staff and pre-registration is not required. Please call the Health Department Office at 973-888-6035 for additional information.

INFLUENZA (FLU) & PNEUMONIA VACCINATION CLINIC: Flu and Pneumonia vaccination clinics are conducted each fall. Advance registration is required 973-888-6035. The fee for residents 65 years and older with Medicare Part B only is free all other residents will be charged $20.00. A receipt will be provided to you for possible reimbursement from your own provider. It is the residents responsibility to submit for his/her own reimbursement. Please make checks payable to: Township of East Hanover. Same rates apply for residents requesting a Pneumonia Vaccine. 
Screenings are conducted twice annually. Fee for the SMAC blood screening is $22.00 and prior registration is required, Fasting is required for the SMAC test; that is, no food or drink , except for water for 12 hours prior to the test, PSA (Prostatic Specific Antigen) $25.00. Annual Rabies Clinic

Dog & Cat Owners: The annual Rabies clinic is back and will be held on Friday, November 22 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in the Borough Hall All Purpose Room.

FOOD SAFETY: The Health Department's environmental staff conduct inspections of all food establishments within the Township of East Hanover and the Borough of Roseland. These food establishments include anyone who serves food to the public, from a large grocery store to a small vending machine. Our health inspectors work closely with retail food providers to ensure that that their facilities, services and employees comply with State standards. While most of our communities food establishments are clean and safe, problems can occur. If you ever have a concern about food safety or sanitation in a local food establishment, please let us know!
