Biography

Councilman Goldstein was appointed by the Borough Council in March 2024 to fill the unexpired term of Councilman Freda after his resignation in February 2024. Neal is married to Caroline (nee Rosen), who grew up in Roseland. They have two boys, Max and Sam, who both graduated from Noecker and West Essex. He and his family have lived on White Oak Road for almost two and a half decades.

Councilman Goldstein attended Trent University, in Canada, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Politics. Subsequently, he went to the London School of Economics, in the United Kingdom, receiving a Master’s degree in Science majoring in International Political Economy. Neal has his Series 7 (FINRA) license and part of his Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) certification.

Neal has spent the past 25 years in various technology leadership roles focusing on the financial services industry. He has successfully tackled large challenges with innovation, efficiency and scale. Neal has led teams of over 200 employees across the globe and successfully managed budgets in excess of $100 million. He is currently the Chief Technology Officer for a retirement services company in New York City.

Councilman Goldstein has been actively involved in local government as he was a previous member of the Roseland Board of Education, serving for over 7 (non-contiguous) years, several of them in the capacity of Vice President.

Neal has coached his boys in more than 15 Roseland Recreation teams over the years. He has traveled to Rwanda in order to set up a computer lab for a youth village, that supports orphans of that country’s genocide. Neal was also a coach for several years at an organization called Top Soccer in West Orange, where the focus was on teaching young kids with disabilities soccer skills.

Councilman Goldstein decided to get involved in local government because he feels he can add value to the strategic operations of the Borough’s mandates. Further, with his background in IT, Neal will champion solutions that will improve the engagement of Roseland’s citizens leveraging technology.
