The Borough of Roseland is proud to re-launch its very successful and much beloved program that will honor Roseland’s veterans over the years and give them the public recognition that they deserve.

“Our veterans are the reason we live in the best nation in the world,” said Mayor James R. Spango. “I’m proud that we can take yet another opportunity to honor them for their selfless service.”

Banners will be hung along the streets located in the downtown core between the Harrison House and Livingston Avenue, in addition to Harrison Avenue between Eagle Rock Avenue and Roseland Avenue and Roseland Avenue between Harrison Avenue and Eagle Rock Avenue. Additional banners that do not fit in these areas are tentatively planned to be hung up around the Harrison Avenue Recreation Complex.

The cost of $275 per banner pays for the banner itself, the cost to ship the banner to the Borough, half the cost to have the banners hung on the poles, and some additional funding to be reserved in the event a banner needs to be replaced due to an act of God. The Borough will pick up the remainder of the costs involved that are not covered by the fee, which includes the banner brackets and the other half of the cost to erect the banners. The program will last two years, so someone who purchases a banner in 2024 will see their banner hung up in both 2024 & 2025 and have the banners given to them by the end of 2025. The program will reopen again in 2026 for 2026 & 2027. Please note that there will be a limit of 50 total banners that can be ordered as part of this program. First come, first served.

Hometown Hero Banner eligibility is open to alive or deceased veterans that currently or had resided in Roseland at any point in their life OR the veteran is/was a family member (father, mother, husband, wife, son, daughter, brother, sister, grandfather, grandmother, great grandfather, great grandmother, great-great grandfather, great-great grandmother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law) of a current Roseland resident.
