Roseland Remembers Former Councilman John Derites

The Borough of Roseland, NJ offers its condolences to the family of former Councilman John Derites, after receiving news of his passing. In his memory, the Roseland flag in front of the Municipal Complex on Harrison Avenue flies at half-staff.

"Councilman John Derites was the epitome of class,” said Mayor James R. Spango. “He was a true gentleman, a calm and strong voice of reason, in addition to being a devoted husband, Dad and grandfather.  In my time as Mayor, John became a trusted confidant. On behalf of all Roseland residents I extend our condolences to Roseann Derites and their entire family.  John Derites’ passing is a terrible loss to our entire Roseland community.”

Councilman John Derities served on the Roseland Borough Council from 1995 through 2006. One of his many accomplishments and contributions to the Borough was that after September 11, 2001, he proposed and oversaw the placement of a 9/11 Memorial in front of Roseland Borough Hall. His actions at that time showed the leadership and caring mindset which marked both his personal life and community service.
