Mayor Louis & Lynn DeBell Field

The field, initially named the Bond Force Memorial Park All Purpose Field was renamed in memory of Mayor DeBell's wife, Lynn, on October 5, 1997. The Park is still named Bond Force Park.

Mrs. DeBell, who worked at the Essex County Vocational Technology School, sadly passed away at an early age. Lynn DeBell was loved by many residents and was extremely community minded and involved. She served as a member on the Women's Club beginning in the early 1970s and held every position in the club, eventually holding the title of President. Lynn also served on many committees in the Blessed Sacrament Church and served as a softball and cheerleading coach for Roseland Recreation, in addition to volunteering on many other committees in the Borough.

22 years to the day of the field being renamed, in honor of Lynn DeBell's legacy in the Borough, the Borough of Roseland also decided to include and honor the former Mayor, Louis DeBell, in the naming of the field in appreciation of his service on October 5, 2019.

Mayor Louis DeBell, who served as Mayor from 1987 until 2002, was extremely active during his mayoral tenure, with a firm focus on being an advocate for first responders and public safety. During his years in office, the First Aid Squad building was erected, the Mayor's Ball was created with the intent to raise funds for public safety causes, a law was passed requiring carbon monoxide detectors and smoke detectors be installed in all homes and businesses in the Borough, and a law was passed requiring children wear helmets when bicycling.

Mayor Louis DeBell, "the longest serving Mayor of Roseland", and a Roseland resident for over 50 years, passed away on July 3, 2021 at 84 years old.
