The Borough of Roseland has created two new sports for the Fall of 2020. One is a Youth Cross Country program, which is being run alongside the track program, that will be taking off from the starting line this autumn. Also added for Fall 2020 is a beloved backyard sport that has been turned into a youth league for boys and girls to enjoy – and parents to watch and remember their youth.

Roseland boys and girls from grades 5-12 are welcomed to sign up to be a part of a youth Wiffle Ball league, which will be divided into four leagues bases on grade (5-6, 7-8, 9-12). Coed teams can be created with up to 6 people on a team as long as a team captain is identified at registration. Registration will end on September 18. Games will be played on Wednesday and Friday evenings from 5:30pm to 9:30pm starting on September 30.

“Increasing and improving programs is important to the Borough. Creating new programs such as Youth Cross Country and Wiffle Ball give our youth more opportunities to participate in recreation,” said Roseland Mayor James R. Spango. “Athletics play an important role in our children by instilling team work and good sportsmanship which transcends throughout our lives. Cross Country Programs and Wiffle Ball leagues and tournaments are both something that was on our radar from day one. I am proud and excited in seeing it become a reality. I hope all our children enjoy!”

Sign-ups for all sports take place through Roseland’s Community Pass website.

Volunteer coaches are also needed, so residents who are interested in coaching should contact the Recreation Department by calling 973-403-6822. Residents who have questions about any programs or need assistance signing up for a program are also encouraged to call the Recreation Department or email mcolitti@roselandnj.org
