Roseland Remembers Former Councilman Carmen Biase

Half Mast Flags

The Borough of Roseland, NJ offers its sincere condolences to the family of former Councilman and longtime Planning Board member, Carmen Biase Jr. In his honor, the flag has been lowered to half-staff at all Borough buildings.

“Carmen Biase’s service to our Borough is another example of how our Borough’s success is directly attributed to our residents’ willingness to volunteer and serve,” said Roseland Mayor James R. Spango. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Councilman Biase was born in Newark and lived in Nutley until he moved to Roseland in 1963. Carmen was elected to the Roseland Borough Council in 1972. After leaving the Council, he served on the Planning Board for nearly four decades. Carmen also served on committees for the First Aid Squad, Public Safety, and Recreation in town while he was also a member of Roseland UNICO. Carmen was recognized as the Volunteer Citizen of the Year in 2014 by the Roseland Governing Body for his more than 40 years of service to the Borough.

When he wasn’t serving the Roseland community, Carmen worked at ITT in Nutley where he advanced up the ranks and retired as an Industrial Engineer. Mr. Biase loved playing golf, spending time with his family, traveling to Florida and the Jersey Shore, and seeing his grandchildren. He and his wife Dorothy, who passed away in 2015, raised their three daughters, Carol, Marilyn, and Denise here in Roseland.

For those who wish to attend the visitation, it will be held on Monday, December 19 from 4pm to 7pm at Shook-Farmer Funeral Home in Roseland. The service will be held on the 20th at 10:00am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the National Eye Institute, or the Roseland First Aid Squad be made in his honor.
