Roseland Remembers Former First Aid Squad Coordinator Joe Silvia

The Borough of Roseland, NJ offers its sincere condolences to the family of longtime Roseland resident and former Coordinator of the Roseland First Aid Squad, Joe Silvia. In his honor, the flag has been lowered to half-staff and memorial bunting has been raised onto the Borough Hall building at 140 Eagle Rock Avenue and at the First Aid Squad building at 300 Eagle Rock Avenue.

“Joe Silvia was the Roseland First Aid Squad. Always the first to answer a call out, Joe assisted our residents in their worst of times,” said Roseland Mayor James R. Spango. “His dedication and vision made the Roseland First Aid Squad what it is today. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and his first aid squad family.”

Coordinator Silvia passed away on February 20th at the age of 78 and had honorably served both his community and his country. Joe Silvia was born in Jersey City, raised in Hoboken, and moved to Roseland in 1977. Silvia served in the Army Reserves and once moving to Roseland, he joined the First Aid Squad in 1987, serving as Coordinator off and on for about 20 years and had held every rank in the Squad over his years of service. Silvia also served as a Board of Trustees Member for the Roseland First Aid Squad for many years. Silvia can only be described as a dedicated public servant and a truly one-of-a-kind individual.

For those who wish to attend the visitation for Coordinator Silvia, it will be held on Saturday, February 26 from 12pm to 3pm at Shook-Farmer Funeral Home in Roseland. The service will be held on the 26th at 2:30pm at the funeral home.
