Roseland Remembers Former Police Chief Walter Critchett

The Borough of Roseland, NJ offers its sincere condolences to the family of former Roseland Police Chief, Walter Critchett. In his honor, the flag has been lowered to half-staff at all Borough buildings starting today, Monday, November 6 through Wednesday, November 8 to coincide with his memorial services. The Borough will also be hanging his Hometown Hero Banner in the front of the funeral home for the duration of his services.

“The Critchett family name is woven into the fabric, history and legacy of the Borough of Roseland,” said Mayor James R. Spango. “Chief Critchett served our borough with distinction and honor for 40 years and served our country with the US Navy. The loss of Chief Critchett will be felt throughout our community.  Chief Critchett’s legacy will live on in our Borough through his son, Chris, who we are proud to have as part of our Borough’s leadership. The Borough of Roseland mourns with the Critchett family on the loss of this true elder of the Roseland community.”

Chief Critchett was hired by the Borough in 1956 and worked his way up the ranks, becoming the Police Chief in 1970 where he served until 1996 when he retired, after giving 40 years of service on the force and 25 years as Chief.

For those who wish to attend the visitation, it will be held on Tuesday, November 7 from 6-8pm at Shook-Farmer Funeral Home in Roseland. The service will be held on Wednesday, November 8 at 9:30am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Roseland.
