Social Security Scam Advisory

Social Security

The Borough of Roseland has been made aware of a Social Security scam that some residents may be receiving. We would like to inform residents about the scam so that you know it is not real.

The recorded call is introduced by an individual claiming to be “Officer Williams from the Social Security Administration” who wants to let the receiver know that they are going to “serve you with certified documents and a warrant” and that if they cannot get your signature, they will involve the local sheriff’s department, media, and law enforcement. The call also mentions that “this case will be prosecuted” and that “your benefits will be suspended” if there is failure to comply and turn in the documents in time.

Residents are advised to NOT call back the number but instead to contact the Roseland Police Department at 973-226-8700 to report the issue for further investigation.
