Statement on the Resignation of Councilman Roger Freda

The Borough of Roseland would like to thank Councilman Roger Freda for his years of service as a Councilman after first being elected in 2018, as he made the announcement at last night’s Borough Council meeting that he would be resigning effective at the conclusion of the meeting.

"I have enjoyed my time working with my friends on the council regarding many initiatives and projects…I have learned so much and will truly miss working with everyone, but I know that upon my departure, the Borough is in exceptional hands,” said Freda.

Councilman Freda stated that it was because of his strenuous work schedule as the Supervisor of the Edison Water Utility that he could not truly fulfill his council obligations and felt the unfortunate need to step aside at this time.

“I’d like to thank Roger for his service and wish him and his family the best of luck in his future endeavors and career which seems to be skyrocketing,” said Mayor James R. Spango. All councilmembers of the Roseland Governing Body also made remarks wishing Councilman Freda the best and thanking him for his service to the Borough.

Before serving on the Borough Council, Councilman Freda worked in the Borough’s Public Works Department and has served on the Roseland Volunteer Fire Department.

With Councilman Freda’s resignation, New Jersey’s Vacancy Law (§ 40A:16-11) is triggered, meaning that the political party’s municipal committee of the former councilman shall submit three names of potential replacements to the Roseland Governing Body within 15 days; and the Governing Body shall have 30 days to make an appointment to fill the vacancy from one of the three names submitted.
