While Roseland is forecast to be on the rain side of the coming storm, residents should still take precautions to ensure they are prepared. As of 11am on December 22, 2022, the forecast from the National Weather Service is calling for the following:

  • Heavy rain between 1.5 to 3 inches will fall on Thursday through Friday afternoon
  • 25-35mph winds (gusting up to 45-55mph) will be blowing from late Thursday night through Friday evening
  • Spotty snow showers are possible Friday afternoon and evening, with no more than an inch of accumulation possible.
  • Flash freezing is possible after the storm leaves on Friday afternoon into Friday evening. Bridges and elevated surfaces are most likely to experience the most severe flash freezing conditions. Wind chills of -5 to 5 degrees are expected.
  • Temperatures will remain very cold on Saturday and Sunday (highs in the low to mid 20s and lows in the teens) until it starts to warm up on Monday (high in the upper 20s-low 30s and low around 20).

Residents can prepare for the coming storm by:

  • Ensuring storm drains are clear of leaves so rain can wash into the drains as quickly as possible to reduce the amount of potential flash freezing on streets.
  • Making sure gutters are cleared out.
  • Ensuring any loose objects outside are secured or put away.
  • Moving any vehicles or property away from areas prone to flash flooding.
  • Making sure you have phone numbers readily available to call PSE&G (1-800-436-PSEG) and the Roseland Police Department (973-226-8700) in the event of an emergency or a power outage.
  • Ensuring that they have ice melt/rock salt for driveways and walkways
