House numbers

The Borough of Roseland has announced that on or about October 1, 2023, the Code Enforcement Department will be inspecting each street to ensure that every house and business have a street number correctly displayed according to Ordinance 10-6. This is to help ensure that in case of an emergency, that first responding agencies can get to your location quickly with as little confusion as possible. 

The criteria for numbering all houses and businesses is as follows:

  • The number may be written in English or in Arabic numerals (Example 12 or VII); 
  • The number must be at least three inches in height on a one family house;
  • The number must be at least six inches in height on every other structure;
  • The number must be located in a position that is clearly visible from the street; 
  • The number must be affixed to the building, a permanently installed post or pole, or on a sign;
  • The number must be painted or made oaf metal, wood, or other permanent material; 
  • The number must be visible in both day time and at night.
