2023 Community Picnic

The Borough of Roseland, NJ held its annual Mayor’s Trophy Softball Game and its Annual Community Picnic on Saturday, June 3 at the Harrison Complex.

The softball game started at 10am on O’Beirne Field and featured the usual matchup of Borough volunteers and staff (elected officials, Borough employees, police officers, volunteers from different committees, etc.) against the Recreation coaches. After 7 innings of play, the Borough Staff defeated the Rec Coaches by a score of 12 to 4.

At noon, the annual Community Picnic was held on the Harrison Complex grounds with hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, chips, and macaroni salad served, among other foods. Over 600 residents attended the picnic, which was an excellent turnout given the temperature barely reached the lower 70s and the entire day was very cloudy.

The Snack Shack was also open during the picnic selling other snack food and drinks for the public to purchase. Tables were set up for residents to sit and eat at, game trucks and inflatables were available for the kids to play with, and the DJ had various games for both kids and adults to participate in.

“The Community Picnic and the Mayor’s Trophy Softball Game are two of my top favorite events of the entire year,” said Roseland Mayor James R. Spango. “Its an excellent opportunity for Borough staff and volunteers to have fun and bond over a friendly softball game. Residents love the picnic because it gives them a chance to spend an afternoon out with their friends, neighbors, and make new friends in the community.”
