Marcelino "Moose" Trillo

Biography

Councilman Marcelino "Moose" Trillo, who was elected to serve on the council in 2019, has lived in Roseland for 14 years with his wife Laura. They have 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl, who happily attend Lester C. Noecker elementary school. He served as Council President in 2023.

Trillo grew up in Kearny, NJ and graduated from Seton Hall Prep in West Orange. He received his Bachelor's degree in History and Political Science from Rutgers College, a Master's in secondary Social Studies Education from Rutgers College, and a Master's in Education Administration from St. Peter's College.  

Trillo is a Vice Principal at Robert Treat Academy Charter School in Newark where he has worked for the past 20 years. The K-8 school is the first charter school in New Jersey to be recognized as a national blue ribbon school of excellence and is widely known as one of the best elementary schools in New Jersey. During his tenure he has served as an instructional assistant, elementary teacher, middle school math and social studies teacher, extended school day coordinator, gifted and talented coordinator, high school placement director, and now as vice principal.

Trillo decided to get involved in local politics to fulfill his sense of civic obligation and to set a positive example for his children. He hopes to help Roseland remain the gem of Essex County and expand communication, transparency, borough wide events, and the recreation program while maintaining the low property taxes and excellent services the citizens of Roseland have enjoyed in the past.  

Moose is an active coach for Roseland Recreation Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and T-Ball and serves as an active board member on the New Jersey Charter School Association, James A. Pinaire III Foundation, and Roseland Cub Scout Committee.
