On January 4, 2024 at approximately 8:30am, a grey BMW was stolen from the Exxon gas station located at 550 Eagle Rock Ave while the owner was putting air in his passenger front tire. At that time, an unknown black male exited from a red BMW from the passenger side and approached the victim's car while it was running. The suspect then jumped into the vehicle and stole the victim's vehicle fleeing onto Eisenhower Parkway.

Later the same day, the same suspect entered a home in Mendham Borough and stole a Mercedes from a garage. The Roseland Police Department's Detective Bureau was working in conjunction with Mendham detectives to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Today, Det. Sgt. Hiter and Officer Williams were following leads and were able to locate the red BMW in the parking lot of 195 First Street in Newark, N.J. The driver of the vehicle was identified as the suspect from the theft from Exxon gas station located in the Borough and also the incident which occurred in Mendham. The adult male was placed under arrest and is being held at the Roseland Police Department with criminal charges pending.

"I commend the Roseland Police Department for their determination and vigilance in apprehending this actor so quickly," said Roseland Mayor James R. Spango. "This should serve as a reminder to all residents to not leave your car running unlocked and unattended at any time."
