Car Thieves Apprehended in Roseland

Accident Scene

The Borough of Roseland would like to thank and congratulate the Roseland and the Livingston Police Departments for working together and apprehending four people who attempted to steal an automobile Sunday night/Monday morning. New Jersey State Police, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, the East Hanover Police Department, Florham Park Police Department, Fairfield Police Department, Millburn Police Department, and West Caldwell Police Department also assisted Roseland and Livingston in apprehending these suspects.

Around 1:30am, four individuals – three juvenile males and one adult male - were identified by the Livingston Police department as driving a car that was reported stolen out of Newark, thanks to license plate readers. As the vehicle entered Roseland trying to evade police, the car crashed into the Exxon gas station sign on Eisenhower Parkway and all occupants tried to escape the scene.

Livingston Police were able to immediately apprehend one suspect who was caught at the crash site. Two suspects tried taking separate Uber rides to escape the scene, but both cars were stopped by Police and the suspects removed from those vehicles. One suspect had escaped the scene, but was found and apprehended on Passaic Avenue thanks to the efforts of Police, security camera footage, and reports from area residents.

All suspects have been turned over to the Livingston Police Department. Nobody was hurt in the accident and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
