The Borough officially began the baseball and softball season in earnest on Saturday, April 22 at Thomas J. O’Beirne Field.

Baseball and softball teams showed up for individual and team photos and led a parade onto the field in the Harrison Avenue Complex on Harrison Avenue. Children, in their uniforms, marched with their coaches, Borough officials, and other volunteers across the field and gathered around the infield.

Thomas J. O’Beirne, the field’s namesake threw out the first pitch, with Mayor James R. Spango and Recreation Council Liaison and Council President Marcelino “Moose” Trillo also throwing out inaugural first pitches to commence the season.

“Opening Day is a long-standing tradition within the Borough of Roseland,” said Roseland Mayor James R. Spango. “Its an event that parents and children look forward to every year.”

While Opening Day has been held for many years in Roseland, this would be the last Opening Day to take place on O’Beirne Field as the Borough knows it, as work will commence as soon as the baseball and softball season is over to turn the Harrison Avenue Recreation Complex into an artificial turf facility.

“We are excited to make major improvements to our facility that will create an amazing complex with additional access to fields and amenities that residents of all ages can enjoy,” explained Roseland Mayor James R. Spango.

The Borough wishes each team all the best as the 2023 season rolls on and thanks the volunteer coaches from the community who have stepped up to lead our baseball and softball teams this year.
